SAFEGUARDING POLICY

The policy outlined below aims to protect all children and young members at the Read and Rise School. All teachers, staff members, employees and volunteers are expected to follow these guidelines to ensure maximum delivery of safeguarding.

Policy Aims:

This policy has the purpose of:

- Outlining the guidelines that will be followed to promote welfare of children and young members of Read and Rise School

- State how implementation of these policies will be monitored to ensure continual delivery to children of Read and Rise

- Identify that all staff members at Read and Rise School are expected to follow these guidelines as a responsibility and duty of their positions in the school

- Clarify that children will be kept safe each day at the Read and Rise School

- Set out information of how the children and young members of the Read and Rise School will be safeguarded

- Identifying that safeguarding of children is extremely important and thus recognise that all rules must be applied to anyone, from outside, who has potential of coming into contact with the students of Read and Rise School

We understand that ensuring the welfare of the children and young members of Read and Rise School is paramount. As a result, to ensure security and safety of our children and students, we recognise the importance of delivering training to all staff to continue executing a professional and safe service. All children have a right to equal protection from any harm or abuse, regardless of age, disability, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation or gender reassignment. We recognise that other children and young members may be more vulnerable due to previous experiences, lack of communication or level of dependency. All staff members and teachers, volunteers, parents and carers should all work together to promote the welfare of the children of Read and Rise School.

We will be committed to the following as a team to promote the welfare of our children and students:

  - To value each individual

  - To listen to each child and respect them

  - To ensure each child, teacher, parent/ carer, volunteer of the Read and Rise School is safe and secure in the environment they are in by applying all health and safety procedures in accordance with regulations and the law

  - To apply child protection and safeguarding in accordance with policies and regulations

  - To implement an effective safety policy and all related procedures

  - To provide effective training to all members wishing to work in the school and having any contact with the children of the Read and Rise School, including those recruited by the school

  - To monitor these implementations via supervisions, support and further training

  - To use correct procedures if any complaints are made against staff

  - To create a friendly environment with zero- tolerance of bullying

  - Using our safeguarding procedures to deal efficiently with any bullying should it arise

  - Any concerns that need to be shared to agencies involving children, parents/ carers, and staff will be done using our safeguarding procedures

  - Recording and storing safeguarding information safely and securely


Our safeguarding policy aims to ensure the following types of abuse do not occur:

  - Physical Abuse: abuse that involves any hitting, shaking, throwing, poisoning, or any other physical harm

  - Emotional Abuse: abuse which has severe effects on a child's development and emotions. This may include showing that a child is worthless, may not be as good as others, mocking the child, etc.

  - Sexual Abuse: abuse which involves forcing sexual activity upon a child or young student, which may be done without the victim acknowledging the activity is happening. This involves physical contact that may be penetrative or non- penetrative.

  - Neglect: the impairment of a child's health as a result of a lack of meeting the basic needs of the child. Examples include failing to provide adequate food for the child, failing to provide food and shelter, failing to provide access to medical necessities. Neglect can also be done emotionally.


Our Designated Safeguarding Officer is the leading person in ensuring the safeguarding of our children at the Read and Rise School and promoting the welfare of children.
